Words.

You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.“ (Matthew 12:34-37 ESV)

Our words matter. Let us be wise in what we speak, spreading encouragement and love rather than hate.

Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. (Matthew 9:22 ESV)

Just as important as the power of Jesus to heal is our power of faith to believe in His miracles.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 ESV)

Light.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV)

Jesus says it pretty clearly. Lets be a light.

Near.

And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord. (1 Samuel 3:19, 20 ESV)

Samuel established himself upon the word of God strengthening his reputation across the land as a man near to The Lord. Being in the Word daily keeps us near to God, giving us opportunity to hear from the creator of the heavens. Why would we ever want to miss out on that?
