How to download your oculus quest videos to your phone.

So maybe you got lucky and hit record at the perfect time to catch yourself burying someone in eleven table tennis, or you are trying to show your friends how incredible superhotvr is to convince them to get a quest 2 so you can get that referral credit. (ps my referral link is in the description if you’re new, preciate it) And all you want to do is download the video to your phone to throw into your group chat. Well then I made this video just for you. Also stick around because I have a trick for unlocking the best quality video recording to flex on your homies. Roll the intro.

Alright first things first if you are new to the quest lets make sure you have downloaded the oculus app onto your phone and have connected your headset to it. Surely you did this to activate your quest but hey I don’t know your vibe so here we go.

Reminder you’ll need your bluetooth live and it’s best be on the same wifi network as your quest to connect. You can check your connection in the app by going to the menu burger on the right then devices then hit connect booya step one done.

Alright now lets drop the headset onto your brain and make sure we know how to record that fire video of your sick quest gameplay.

While you are inside your game, maybe drawing a giant uhhh bunny in gravity sketch (which is free by the way) hit the oculus button on your right hand and click on the camera icon to start recording. Of course mine is red but yours will be grey like the others.

You’ll of course see the camera icon turn red like mine  to confirm it’s recording. Now once you finish drawing your sweet sweet bunny then drop that uno reverse and click the oculus button again to go and stop the recording.

You can also do this by clicking the pink share button with the arrows.

Now when you are done with your funny bunny time exit your game and go to your apps menu and choose the files app. Now up in the top right you can turn auto sync on or off let’s turn it on.

Now that this is enabled find your video and click the three dots to select sync and wala it is now being sent to your phone. Give it a little time and feel free to go play something else and check back and you’ll see that it has synced sunk? Let’s go with sunk.

Now you can make your way to the oculus app and choose gallery you’ll see your video. You may need to swipe down to refresh to see your latest clip.

Tap your vid and then tap share and you’ll be able to download it and save to your phone or send to your friends.  Fair warning the longer the video the longer it will take to process and download so set thy expectations accordingly.

So you may be saying well Woodie I’ve done all that and my video is square and the quality sorta sucks. Well if you want to learn how to take your quest to the next level and get that beautiful 1080 widescreen footage click on the screen now and I’ll see you in the next video.

Upgrade Your Quest 2: How to Install SideQuest and upgrade your video recording and graphic settings

You’ve had your quest for a little bit and you’re wondering can I make this thing even better than what it already is? Can I get my quest video recordings to be widescreen and in 1080p? The answer is yes let me show you how.

First things first you are going to need your phone with the oculus app, a computer pc or mac and either the usb c cable your quest came with or a usb c to usb a cable to connect your headset to your computer depending on the types of ports you have.

Lets get all the dirty work out of the way by first enabling dev mode on your headset. Head over to developer.oculus.com and  sign up using your facebook / oculus account and then head to https://developer.oculus.com/manage/organizations/create/

You’ll first need to verify your account by adding a credit card or a mobile phone number, I suggest using a phone number and if you want to stay private get yourself a google voice number. And thats my elliott alderson mr robot tip of the day.

Once verified Click the back to home button and create your fake dev organization by entering any name in the text box on the right for example say something like Zuck Daddy then click the understand check box and submit. Then pretend to read the disclosure agreement and hit agree. I promise this will all be worth it!

Whip out your phone and open the oculus app tap on the menu burger and then devices and then scroll down to developer mode under headset settings and then enable the toggle switch.

Jaunty on over to your computer and head to sidequestvr.com and at the top click get sidequest. Download the version that works with your operating system and then install it. If you are on windows you will have the added joy of downloading the developer drivers from oculus: https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/package/oculus-adb-drivers

If you are on mac you are good to go, on PC you will need to unzip the drivers install file and then open the usb drivers folder and then inside choose the file android_winusb.inf right click and install and then give yourself a fist bump we are almost done.

Time to make the sacred connection. Open the sidequest app on your computer and plugin your quest to your pc. Then inside the headset choose allow usb debugging and access to data. Now you can remove your headset and you will see in the top left corner of the sidequest app the icon is now green and you are connected.

Now lets freakin level up our headset! Inside sidequest hit the wrench up top and now you have all the tools at your disposal. The key ones I would suggest are to set video capture size to 1080, up the gpu and cpu level if you have an external battery and the texture size to 2048.

I do understand that was a lot but in my opinion its worth it for the widescreen video and quality bump alone. let me know in the comments if this was helpful, and if you want to keep up with the latest quest news subscribe and click one of these videos on the screen now and lets continue our quest in the next video!
