Embrace the 40.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. (Mark 1:9-13 ESV)

Notice that when God confirmed His son to change the world in the baptism immediately Jesus was led into a 40 day trial where He was tempted but did not error and ministered to by the angels. As Gods children when we are called or confirmed we will see the same things in our lives and we have to look to the Lord in the times of temptation, pray continuously to know Him and read His word to learn from Him and others He has chosen.
Right after this Jesus goes on a healing streak, casting out demons and speaking with authority to the world. He embraced the 40 days spent in the wilderness and so should we so that we can come out with strength of God to change the world through Jesus in us.

Take Heart.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.“ (John 16:33 ESV)

When it all gets hectic, when the pressure continually mounts we need to take a minute to breathe and know that in all of the struggle we have peace in Jesus. As He says let us take heart when the world is hammering us and know that Christ is in us and just as he has overcome the world so have we.

We can move mountains.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14 ESV)

My favorite verse in all the bible for the power of Christ is given to us who love and believe in Him. He says clearly that we can do even greater works than He did on this earth. He has given us the power through him to the Father to change the world, to heal the world, to empower the world for His glory. I think we forget that Jesus gave us this authority and if we dismiss it, we lose out on truly living a powerful God filled life. We can move mountains, just believe it.

Love.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.“ -Jesus (John 13:34, 35 ESV)

The world will come to know the disciples of Jesus by loving as He did with a love that calls for forgiveness, a love that relies on the power of God not the world, a love that looks past all iniquity. Let us be that love to this world shining the light of Jesus to the darkness to bring healing and restoration from God above.

For the glory.

Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 11:1-4 ESV)

What if this was how we looked at illness in our lives? What if this was how we looked at all our struggles?

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:39, 40 ESV)
